setting description on virtual-interface

i'm trying to figure out how to get the description set to a useful value
on virtual interfaces. the default is that it gets cloned from the
virtual template, but i'd like to get a username in there. from looking
at the cisco site, it seems like a radius entry of:
Cisco-AVPair = "lcp:interface-config=desc username"

would do it, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. this is a 7206
running 12.0(7)xe1. anyone have a better clue?
