For NANOG, non-operational content

One of my instructors has a Cisco 2501 running 12.0(9) that is possessed.
A) Have you ever seen this before
B) Do you know how to stop it.

A student added an IP address to S1 and the router went postal.
>From the terminal session:

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4165 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4166 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4167 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4168 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4169 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (4170 times)

-Traceback= 0 31B985C

The counter increments until you reboot, then starts counting again.

Cisco lists the following in the IOS notes:
CSCdr75021
As a Cisco router boots Cisco IOS, it attempts to read the CPU EEPROM into a
data structure that is not big enough, causing the router to reload. The
crash dump typically looks like this:
Nested r4k_return_to_monitor call (2 times) -Traceback= 0 6038EC00 6038EB14
6038D524 603768D4 6042C86C 6042BF88 6043866C 604379CC 6042EB18 Nested

There is no workaround.

I would appreciate any help

Mike
