You can load something onto "the other company's" routers?
The difference is that if you load something onto your PC and it causes the
PC to crash (in the M$ case: over and over and over), so what! But if your
router carrying the traffic of your 10,000 customers crash causing all
their traffic to stop, your other routers to get hammered recalculating
paths, etc, you could well start losing your customers and go out of
business.
Is this a worthwhile risk for "less" rather than "more", or "tcsh" rather
than "csh"?
Juniper's answer to this question is "no". Therefore we take the most
pessimistic view of any new software ("it will crash") and the most
conservative path to verifying everything that goes on the router ("it
didn't crash this time, lets try it with these other 50 configs").
The reality is that at the moment we can't stop you. (Pay particular
attention to the "at the moment".) But, if your router has problems after
you do something like this your best bet is to reload JUNOS and keep it
pristine. If the problem re-occurs with just JUNOS, then call us.
