Time to open up this can of worms on the VRRP WG (if it is still around).
I am surprised this wasn't put through then. Appears to be a lack of
operational feedback to VRRP as a couple of VRRP enabled customers will
tell you how important pinging the virtual is in terms of customer
debugging.
