James,
These are DC systems that have proper power cabling installed. There is no transformer between the DC power infrastructure and the router, both are running at -48 volts nominal (-53 supplied by the rectifiers).
Both incidents happened due to unusual circumstances with the office power. In one, the office battery capacity was reduced for maintenance and a loss of commercial power happened simultaneously.

The easy solution to this is to increase the voltage. You can use thicker wire or higher an electrician to step up the transformer.
