Maybe you know already, but the TS-520S is not too good a choice for
12 volt operation.  I used to have one and found out the hard way.  It
uses a dc-dc convertor which can not provide full power output.  You
will only get about half of normal.  An all-solid state rig would be
far better.  If the idea is to save money, an Icom IC-730 or -735
would do you a good job.  I've had a -730 since they came out in the
early '80s and I highly recommend it for portable or mobile.
