1. Introduction
----------------

To retrieve a document, you just have to specify its
    "address",
called a "Uniform Resource Locator" (URL). For example, the URL
of help document is

    http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/htdocs/Agora/Help.txt

This means that to get it, you just have to send a mail to
<agora at dna.affrc.go.jp>, with whatever subject you like, the
body of the mail being:

   SEND http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/htdocs/Agora/Help.txt

If this is the first time you enter this new medium, we
   suggest
you look at the following documents:

    http://www.w3.org/TheProject.html
          The World-Wide Web Initiative[1]

    http://www.boutell.com/faq/
        World-Wide Web Frequently Asked Questions[2]

In this new media, most documents are hypertext. In such a
    case
you will notice numbers in square brackets such as [12] next to
some special words.
This means you may access a new document, hopefully related
    to
the word(s) preceding the [12]. If you are interested to see
this new document, you will find at the bottom of the document
containing the [12] a list of URLs, next to numbers. Then, just
copy the URL next to [12], and paste it to the body of a mail
you send to <agora at dna.affrc.go.jp> . If you are lazy, there is
another way to retrieve W3 documents through email: just reply
to <agora at dna.affrc.go.jp> , and specify in the body the
number(s) you are interested in. This program will figure out
which document you are interested in by looking at the subject
header that you then have to preserve.

Example 1
=========

You'd like to know more about the World-Wide Web Initiative
    ?
All right, the number between brackets is 1. Let's look at the
bottom of this page. 1 corresponds to
http://www.w3.org/TheProject.html .

So you have to send a mail to <agora at dna.affrc.go.jp> with the
body: SEND http://www.w3.org/TheProject.html

Example 2
=========
You still have some questions on World-Wide Web ? All right,
    the
appropriate documents are "World-Wide Web Development" and
"Frequently Asked Questions". They have the numbers 2 and 3 in
brackets next to them. So you reply to the mail from
<agora at dna.affrc.go.jp> that you are currently reading, and
write in the body:
    2 3

Note: If your mail tool truncates subject lines, it may be
useful for you to know that this robot needs only the part (URL:
...) to determine what the numbers refer to.

2. Commands related to the retrieval of W3 documents
-----------------------------------------------------
Everything appearing in [] below is optional; everything
appearing in <>is mandatory; all commands are case insensitive.

2.1 send [URL], www [URL]

    send [URL]
    www [URL]

this will send you back the document you requested, with all its
hrefs, so that you may ask further requests. (if the document is
too large, you will get only its first 5000 lines). The URL sent
is case sensitive and may contain the following characters:

    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJK
    LMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789:/._-+@%*()?$#&=

If you do not specify URL, agora will send help document.

<<CAUTION>> E-MAIL MAX Line LIMIT: 5000 lines!!!

    Example: with mail body
        send http://www.w3.org/
        www http://www.cern.ch/

2.2 rsend <return-path> <URL>
Same as "send", but you can specify a different return-path

    Example:
        rsend zorro at horsemen.holywood.com http://www.w3.org/

2.3 deep <URL>
Same as "send", but it will also send you the documents
    referred
to in the URL you mentioned. (If the documents are too large,
you will get only the first 5 000 lines of what "deep" should
provide). Be cautious when using "deep"! Agora might mail to you
several dozens of documents!

    Example:
        deep http://www.w3.org/

2.4 source <URL>
Same as "send", but allows you to see the source of the
    document,
so that you may use a nicer HTML browser to read it

   Example:
       source http://www.w3.org/

<<CAUTION>> E-MAIL MAX Line LIMIT: 5000 lines!!!

2.5 rsource <return-path> <URL>
Same as "source", but you can specify a different
    return-path

    Example:
        rssource zorro at horsemen.holywood.com http://www.w3.org/

2.6 help
    This document

2.7 bsource
same as source, but uuencode the document.

    Example:
       bsource http://www.w3.org/

3.2 About News

------------------------------

3.2.1 Can I read Netnews ?

  You can browse several newsgroups;
alt, bionet, comp, fj, rec, sci, soc

if you describe a mail body with

    send news:soc.culture.japan

you will get subject index list post on the soc.culture.japan
(i.e. About Japanese Culture Discussion) article. Please read
the internet handbooks if you are not familiar with the
newsgroups.

*** Note ***
News in our agora is not full support. It has some problem:
o The reply of some newsgroups is HTML source, not translated
  to
formated text data.
o Our agora has no response to some newsgroups access. (It
  causes
core dump.)
We are investigating and creating the newsgroup list that dont
go well. Please see
"http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/htdocs/Agora/news_index.html".

------------------------------

3.2.2 Can I post an article.
No.
In our agora, it does not allow posting to news, only allow
reading. Because the news server that our agora uses is not
anonymous server.

------------------------------

3.3 About binary data

------------------------------

3.3.1 I tried to download graphics file by using agora service
but failed.
Is it possible to do that ?

Yes it is. Agora is able to send binary data by uuencoding. But
our agora has a limitation that maximum line in a mail is 5000.
Maybe we can not send a complete data if you want to get large
binary data.

ALT.BINARIES.PICTURES UTILITIES ARCHIVE
http://mrcnext.cso.uiuc.edu/%7Edeej/index.html is much helpful,

if you would have not know how to unzip or uuencode/uudecode the
binary/ ascii encoding mail.

------------------------------

3.3.2 Agora says below in his reply.
"*** Sorry, we do not send more than 5000 lines through email
for one
 set of requests ***"
Any another solution on the issue?

It is impossible to get big binary data by using agora.(See
3.3.1) But if your requested file is in Anonymous FTP resource,
ie, if the URL you specified is like "ftp://foo/bar", then you
can get it by using ftpmail service(ftpmail at dna.affrc.go.jp).

If you want to use the ftpmail service, then please mail to
ftpmail at dna.affrc.go.jp with "help" in mail body. The server
will send back the usage of ftpmail service to you.

------------------------------

3.3.3 How to get image file that just says [IMAGE] in agora
reply

You can get image file by "SEND image_file_url" command same as
to get
 a normal document.
And you can get URL of the image_file_url by "SOURCE" command
like below example.

Example) How to get URL of [IMAGE]

>From Fig.2, naturally, you find that the URL of [IMAGE] in
>Fig.1 is
"http://bank.dna.affrc.go.jp/ine.gif".

---- Fig.1 Part of "send http://bank.dna.affrc.go.jp/" result

Forestry and Fisheries and its research activities

3.4 misc
------------------------------

3.4.1 Can I get documents that are referenced from agora's reply
?

If you want to get these documents, please send
agora at dna.affrc.go.jp with Subject
    (URL: your request)
and with body
    reference-number

example :
  To: agora at dna.affrc.go.jp
  Subject: (URL: http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/)

  2 3

If your mail tool truncates subject lines, it may be useful for
you to know that this robot needs only the part (URL: ...) to
determine what the numbers refer to.

------------------------------

3.4.2 I have sent the right request. But I can not get reference
documents.

In writing a request in "Subject: " with the reference number in
the mail body, please check following points.

  1) URL in Subject is ONE LINE, which mean without line break
  2) URL in Subject must embrace between '(URL: 'and ')'

Agora received many corrupted requests even if you have sent the
right request. Some mail tool inserts line breaks, word wraps,
truncates subject lines. Please send the request to yourself to
check your request is intact or not.

  Bad examples:

  1) () miss match
  "Subject: Re: (URL: http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/"

  2) Divided subject line.
  "Subject: Re: (URL:
      http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/)"

  3) No space between "URL:" and "http"
  "Subject: Re: (URL:http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/)"

------------------------------

3.4.3 I got Chinese/Korean documents. But it is written by
strange
characters. Can I get them in correct characters?

Use bsource command. (See 2.7)
The send and source command is specialized for Japanese when it
encountered 8 bit character such as Chinese/Japanese/Korean. But
bsource command send any document with uu-encoding, without
encoding to a specific langage.

------------------------------

3.4.4 I have sent right request. But I can not get any reply.

Agora checks header of a received mail and determines whether
the mail is a request, an error mail, or a bounced error mail.
When agora does not determine the mail as a request, it forces
to exit.

For example, agora does not determine as a request in below
cases.
  (1) the "From: " or "Reply-to: " address matches agora.
  (2) the "From: " or "Reply-to: " address matches daemon. (3)
the "Subject: " field matches "RETURNED MAIL"

------------------------------

3.4.5 Can URLs requested be split over two or more lines in the
body of
 a message ?

Yes, you can. In DISC Agora, it treats following line that does
not begin agora commands as a continuous part of previous line.
For example, request (1) is same request (2).

(1)
send http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/ind
ex.html
send http://lycos11.lycos.cs.cmu.ed
u/cgi-bin/flpursuit?first=11\&maxhi
ts=10\&minterms=1\&minscore=0.01\&t
erse=standard\&query=bill+gates
(2)
send http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/index.html
send
http://lycos11.lycos.cs.cmu.edu/cgi-bin/flpursuit?first=11\&maxh
its=10\&minterms=1\&minscore=0.01\&terse=standard\&query=bill+ga
