WWV rumble

While listening to WWV, I hear a low-frequency rumble immediately after
each and every one-second tick. During a one-minute cycle sometimes the
rumble is of short duration, say 1/4 second, other times it is of longer
duration, maybe 3/4 second. Is this "rumble" some type of data trans-
mission? The same sound is heard regardless of which receiver I use.

P.S. Having been in the Coast Guard, I find the minute :16 announcement
a bit sad. The days of ground-based radio aids to navigation have passed.
