Yeah, they sure were.  I'd go to the Knight Kit pages and look and wish
that I could afford the goodies.  But I was lucky in that I had an SX-28A
(still got it) and my homebrew transmitter.

We had a pretty good shop up here, called Elmar Electronics in Oakland.
They had a shack in one corner of the store, and would let kids like me
come in and operate the "state of the Art" Collins station, the 75A
receiver and 32V transmitter.  Man, what a rush!
