The 145 was single/double conversion with final IF of 455 kHz and
a Q-multiplier to sharpen the IF bandwidth somewhat, if I remember
correctly. The 180 is double/triple conversion with 2nd IF
of 455 where the notch filter is, then adjustable tuning down
to 3rd IF of 60 kHz where different bandwidths of AM or SSB can
be selected. The ability to tune out a het with the notch filter,
then have a fine tuning control which will let me move the final
IF response curve around +/- 3 kHz is one of the main features
that make the 180 such a good receiver for fighting QRM.

I would take a poor shape 180, myself, but then, I've never been
afraid of buying s rx that needed major work. Most likely, the
trader was basing his comments on the physical appearance of
the rx anyway. I used Brasso on the black painted trim piece
around the dial of a ugly 180, and it polished up like glass.
