Please gentlemen, don't embarrass yourself!!

Bob Peters, a real gentleman, is absolutely right. The tubes DO
cost this much!!
>>>>>BBBBBBBUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT<<< and it's a big but, I have to
put my .02 in here:

We are supposed to be hams. The goddamn CBers have caused this
with their LEEEENEEEEERS. There were enough sweep tubes produced
in the 60s and 70s to last FOREVER in ham rigs, but the
illegal CBers (is there another kind?) snapped 'em up and fried 'em.

But we are not CBERS!!!!! Our fathers and grandfathers build their
whole damn rig -- SURELY you can find a tube to put in yours!

Example, the drake uses 6jb6s -- the CBERS do too! BUT what about
a 6DQ6?? look up the price, boys, and grab em for $2-8 depending on
source!! Change sockets, adj screen voltage, set bias, maybe short a
turn on the PA tank, align the driver plate AND go to town!!
Surely if a General class (equiv) in l940 could design and build a
rig, you college-educated, upper middle class extras can make a
damn Drake PA talk.......can't you?

Don't forget the EL/PL 509 -- Made NEW by Sovtek -- how about a
couple of those in your SWAN???? GOOD BUDDY?????

What about resale value??? I converted my NEW, MINT FT-101 E
to 6146s. Then the first time I used it on the air, an old timer
said "I want to buy it -- whatever you want for it" He always
like them but didn't like sweep tubes. This mod BTW, looked
factory perfect!! No way to tell that it wasn't built that way.
(BTW, I liked the old fart, and screwed myself on the deal)

Besides, this gear is made to be USED!! I am not a butcher. Any
mods I make are factory perfect and IMPROVE the gear, either in
performance or longevity.

Think about this the next time you see a SWAN 750 with bad tubes
for $125.

73 to all, Walt WB5LJW

BTW, a tube manual is ESSENTIAL. Antique Electronic Supply has them
