Johnson Navigator Questions

Hi Ed, Scott, and the group:
I just received a long-sought-after Navigator this week so this question was
of interest to me as well. I'd never realized the "swizzle sticks" pointed
in a different direction!
In checking other Johnson rigs, I will advance the theory that front-facing
"pointers" were reserved fo the "big rigs" like the Ranger, Valiant,
Pacemaker, and 500, while ther panel-facing pointers were common to the
"smaller" Navigator, Challenger, and 6N2.
A hidden message? Or maybe just the whim of different designers?
