857B were also used in the major HT supply of Radio Australia's
first 100 kW hf tx's, made in Australia by Standard Telephone &
Cables in about 1943. Mercury vapour with a PIV of about 20 kV at
several amps from memory. Lots of filament power. Lots of UV at
full load current. I'll check the specs tonight. Anyone want a
        dozen NOS?!!!

Each STC tx used 6 x 857B to provide 10 kV to the rf pa at about
15 amps. Another 6 x 857B provided 12 kV to the modulator. All
the 857B were forced air cooled.

(The STC tx's were decommissioned in about 1984 and replaced by
the Gates/Harris 100 kW PWM tx's currently in service)
