Greetings to all afficianados of vintage radio...
Starting to-night, and lasting until the weekend, it is my intention to
fire-up my 1929 replica transmitter on or about 3575-KHz, just after 1:30
AM EDST (0530 GMT)...
The rig consists of my tried & true (three successful "AWA 1929 QSO Party"
campaigns!) 245 Hartley oscillator/transmitter, but with a twist: I
recently finished construction of a period-looking, matching 2 x 245 LINEAR
AMPLIFIER designed to put keep company with the lonely '45! Though tested
into dummy loads, this combo has NOT seen any action on the air---YET.
If any of you are up & about "...in the wee hours", please give me a
listen: I'll call "CQ GB", & hopefully get that all-important first QSO
under the belt of the new amplifier...
BTW, I run it with about 70 ma. on the plates, 250 volts---output power
(with the two tubes currently installed) is just under 10-watts. The
antenna shall be a half-wave dipole for to-night, & (maybe) an "inverted
full-wave U" for Thursday & Friday night, for benefit of "...the long haul"
DX, Hi Hi..
Hope to work a few of you guys, & will appreciate any & all feedback---on
the air, or by e-mail posting---re. the signal quality (on the dummy load
it chirps some, but is much more stable than the Hartley ever was
"alone")...
