Recommending tube caps (and bases ?)

I am wondering if "Liquid Nails" might be a good alternative.

It sets up just slightly less than hard, retains some flexibility and might
do really nicely for tube bases and caps.

Anyone tried that? Perhaps I should let one or two of my older tubes be
the guinea pigs!
