Help ID'ing a Navy receiver

To all,

I recently picked this up for a decent price.  It's apparently some sort of
Navy receiver that covers the standard AM broadcast band.  It's in an old
wooden case that can't be the original color but doesn't have any other
finish under it.

Picture 3 shows a Navy acceptance plate on the rear.

Please have a look at the pictures below and tell me what you know!
