Congratulations Ron!  Two things: I'd suggest that at some point the
setscrew may have slipped, creating a burr on the shaft.  Remove that by
careful filing or sanding before reinstalling the knob.  You may also
want to ream any roughness out of the knob bushing with an appropriate
drill bit, handheld.

And I'll say it again, the BEST penetrant I've ever used is Kroil, by
Kano Labs.  It's only available direct, but worth the trouble.
