You may be thinking of Liberty Ships and Victory Ships.   Actually the
standard "big" xmtr for LST's was the Westinghouse TDE.  Of course, there
could have been some variations in the 1051 LST's  built during WW2..... it
always happens!

Having knowledge of both, I would emphatically say that the Merchant Radios
were never as rugged as the Navy types.  Seems natural considering their
individual service requirements.  Much more vibration and disturbances on
Navy ships, especially combatants.  (read that: Big Guns)
