Hi Pete, et al,
    The Army tech manual, T.O. 31R1-3BC779-1 was originally printed in
Feb. 1948  It refers to "formerly T.O. 16-40BC779-5", no date given.  So
maybe that's a reasonable approximation, tho' the SP-210 series (it's an
SP-210LX), were put out starting in abt 1939.  You can find more info on
them on The Hammarlund Historian website:

in the H-Files secn & the Service secn, incl a source for a repro. name

    I have 2 of them, one refurbished, one just starting the process.  The
infnitely variable bandwidth is a neat feature.
