Hi Alan,
    If it's old, maybe it's water soluble glue & can be soaked off.  Get
it horizontal, and put a damp cloth over it for a few hrs, may have to
replenish the dampness.  Maybe it'll peel off like OLD postage stamps,
bottle labels, etc.  If it's a solvent soluble glue, lotsa luck.
