OK fixed my DX60 (mostly) - the relay under the chassis is
not actually a PTT mod. like I had thought...
It is to replace damaged contacts on the front wafer
of the function switch!
Now it works, but needs the full 120V AC to make the relay pull in.
The scary humming sound was the relay not quite pulling in.
The relay just turns on the High Voltage, all of 600 V DC!
The burning smell came from the 6DE7 modulator stage which
has been wired wrong. This rig has probably never been on the air
since it was assembled,
although the wiring job looks very professional.
You see the 100 uF cap is MISSING from the cathode of V4, the
6DE7 and the RESISTOR in the cathode, instead of reading 33 K-
ohms, measures about 33 ohms! and is burnt looking! HI hi!
DOn't we have some fun adventures on these old rigs.
Well I tried a 90 watt CQ on 7040 and no one came back. Suppoer
is ready.
Will try again later....
WHERE are the Ameco AC1 guys?
