No one noticed that the FCC's recent action to
dramatically widen Voice on 80M telegraphed their
long-delayed and much-expected eventual elimination
of Morse Code in coordination with the rest of the
world.

I passed 20WPM so it is not that the code stopped
me but I know a young Ham who was jumping for joy
today as he has a learning disability that was making
code nearly impossible -- he said "I am going to do
nothing but study the General non-stop until I pass!"

For him this was a wonderful Christmas present, for
others it is a change that comes across as a disappointment.

I don't see the FCC as the villan here, though they
may have timed this as a slap at the ARRL for their
recent attacks on the FCC Chairman and their lawsuit re.
BPL. It is rarely wise to diss bureaucrats so directly.

BTW: This will drive used HF gear values way up as a
flood of new General and Extra class licensees seek
starter rigs.
