Technically, SSB is  a form of AM. It is "Amplitude Modulated Single
Sideband Suppressed Carrier", used to be called SSSC.
SSB is a misnomer, since it doesn't specify whether the carrier is
suppressed or not. You can transmit a single sideband signal with full
carrier, and you won't need a BFO/product detector to detect it!
So you can say that AM is a form of  SSB, with the carrier and both
sidebands present...
