What you say is true Harry.  However, in my 35 plus years as a ham, it has "generally" been found that those who were and are the most ardent detractors of CW and wanted it eliminated from the exam were and are those who were simply too lazy to learn it,  not that they didn't understand it.  I've always believed that if a Boy Scout could learn five words a minute in order to pass the merit badge anyone can, with effort, learn the code.   
HMMMM.. wonder if the scouts have followed the ARRL and FCC leads and eliminated the CW requirement as part of that merit badge requirement?
