I disagree Jim... some of us liked to work WEAK-SIGNAL on 
VHF with rotary beams, yes even on FM, and for that it is 
essential.

If you are in and out of a repeater 120 miles away, then that 
is a genuine cause for calling CQ for a while.
Even more so on Simplex.

But as the doctor said when he cut his finger, "Suture self!"
