Isn't that less than two S-Units.
A full output TX-1 carrier or 300w carrier would be less than one S-Unit 
difference ?

Now that's clear...

You'll have to throttle back the TX-1 output to around 25 to 30 W in
order to produce a 300W carrier out of a 1.2 to 1.5 KW amplifier, as
gain typically is around 10 dB or better (10X input).
