diffrence between the 3-500Z and the 4-250A

what is the difference  between the 3-500Z and the 4-250A tubes and 
could i exchange one for the other without to much fret? I use a Kenwood 
TL-922A Linear Amplifier but am toying with building a wild one from 
scratch using spare parts to see what im capable of (legally that is).
