Hi Fred,
No, it's a separate battery, about the size of a nickel,
that's inside the radio. Although Radio Shack will tell
you that the battery must be changed by a "qualified
factory technician", it is a fairly easy job for anyone
comfortable with disassembling (and reassebling) handhelds.
