Well, not "all" tube type rigs are drifty!
The Collins S-Line, the Heath SB-Line, and generally
the Drake 4-Line can hold their own with "modern"
equipment. However, I do agree that much of the older
equipment is definitely not as stable as most of the
"modern" equipment.

tube rigs would be drifty. Basically all new solid
state production rigs are crystal controlled. One time
we would not be so concerned about a few hundred Hertz
drift but today the younger hams would comment on your
drifting signal.
