Aluminum oxidation

Fellow BA'ers -

I have a Knight R-55A whose aluminum front panel exhibits what appears to be a scattering of areas of oxidation - more like feathery scratches than whole  "patches".

Is there any effective way of getting rid of same without screwing up the lettering, etc., e.g. can they be polished out or carefully chemically removed like maybe using a Q-tip or ???
