You can't tell by the bezel.  My Collins 51J-2 has the metal bezel with only 51J printed on it.  However, the serial number tag definitely says 51J-2.  Now the serial number (stamped into the metal) is very light and hard to read.  It shows a 2-digit number.

It's not a 51J1, it's a 51J [no suffix] according to the front bezel.

Either way, according to some sources there were less than 200 built before
the 51J-2.

Still, $7800 is too rich for MY blood...
