That's interesting Bill. I wasn;t aware of that with the "X" and the SX140 not having and X.
I am pretty sure that the X in SX140 meant crystal and it wasn't on the end of the model 
number.
I have an SX99 for years and that had a very basic simple (but effective) crystal filter 
scheme using only one or maybe two crystals.

Hallicrafters had other models like S20 and S40 with no filter and no X.
