[Boatanchors] Elmac AF-67 - Is V2 only for NFM?

The tube is a reactance modulator.  If the power supply runs 6.3-volts for the heaters ("filaments"), then you should be able to remove the tube.  But, if the power supply runs 12.6-volts for the heaters, the tube has to remain or else the series / parallel relationship will cause an unbalance in the voltage applied to the tubes.

I'm studying the schematic of the Elmac AF-67.

Is the only purpose of V2 inside the VFO box for NFM?

If so may it, and the associated circuitry, be removed
without harm to the VFO?

That reduces heat in the vfo enclosure.

Or am I misreading the schematic?

Thanks!
