Agree entirely. The Box Shop places are not where to go to get good
packing.

It's NOT hard to pack for survival. Double boxes, and overstuffing the
boxes really works well. Reinforce weak parts with extra cardboard.
Lots of bubbles with a min of 4" between inner box and outer box.
Overstuff everything. It'll get there OK.

Foam in place rocks... I had a Cosmophone shipped here with that ... it
arrived fine and was worth the extra care .

In my experience, the folks at the UPS and FedEx stores are friendly and cooperative, decent people but they have neither the supplies, the equipment or the knowledge to pack heavy equipment correctly. The only exception is that I am told there are a few UPS stores with real foam in place equipment, not the little packs but the real stuff that produces large plastic wrapped pieces of foam packing like a custom made box.
