Jon,

There are a number of factors that go into determining the sessions
possible on these platforms.

- memory on the router
- desired throughput per session
- what else is configured on the router (eating CPU)
- IDB limitations

So keeping all those factors in mind, there really isn't a set number
that is a guideline.  However, the officially supported number on the
7200 platform with 512MB DRAM is 16k PPPoE sessions terminated (running
12.2(8)B or later).  On the 3640, the top end limitation is the IDBs on
the box, and with that in mind, you are capped at 800 PPPoE sessions.
You will notice that the 7200 is listed here with 10000 IDBs, but this
limitation is avoided using the subVAI capability code that was
introduced in the IOS rev previously mentioned.
