That depends on whether the 1 Mbps is with or without the ATM cell tax.
Cisco configuration is based on 53 bytes per cell - but only 48 bytes is
useful payload, of course.

The ISP may be correct. 1 Mbps IP payload is around 1104 kbps in Cisco
speak (1000*53/48).

aal5mux is fine if you only want to run IP, and has lower overhead than
aal5snap.
