I have no idea about the actual problem you're observing, but I would
("TAC-Style") recommend going to 12.0(21)S6.  It seems to be *really* 
well-behaving, as opposed to earlier 12.0S releases.

Also, 12.0(9)S has some security problems if you're using SNMP or SSH.
