[nsp] intermitten ping lags on 7500/rsp4/256M

Hi.  Been reading this list for the last day or so and thought I would
chime in on this.

You can use the 'scheduler allocate' command to tell the router to give
more CPU time to lower priority tasks.  This is handy for ensuring that
the console remains interactive and not sluggish during DoS attacks and
should somewhat help keep ping responses more stable if that is
important for your network monitoring tools.

What about the part about sho proc, cpu jumps to 99%, down to 0%, a few
secs later, back to 99%?  I can tell (while in the console) that the
router is lagging...as the echos are very very sluggish..sometimes I
have to wait 2 secs for the letters to show.

You can't "fix" it. ICMP handler is low-priority process in IOS. These
"delays" are only evident when you try to get ICMP replies from the
router
itself, but they do not affect the transit traffic.
