Hi All,

Just thought i'd pass on an update on what we've been able to find out about Cisco fakes.. might be useful to you.

First, the following products are POTENTIALLY counterfeited to our knowledge:

WIC-1DSU-T1
WIC-1T
WIC-2T
WIC-1ENET
WIC-1B-S/T

NM-1FE2W
NM-2FE2W
NM-2W

NM-HDV
VWIC-1MFT-T1
VWIC-2MFT-T1
VWIC-1MFT-E1
VWIC-2MFT-E1
VWIC-1MFT-G703
VWIC-2MFT-G703

VIC-2FXS
VIC-2FXO

There are some telltale signs that they are fake, including:

1) "c1sco systems"
            "cisco sytems"
            " sisco systems"
            "cwsco systems"
any of these on the underside of the unit (where appropriate) should be returned.
NOTE: many wics and other products have a "cisco systems" where the dot on the i blends into the body of the i - these seem to be ok, cisco has made many products with this characteristic. The only ones we know to be bad are those with a distinct numeral '1' in place of the i.

2) Red link lights during the boot process - these should be amber colored.

3) Yellow or otherwise off-colored serial number stickers that look fake - usually these will have other problems like those noted above

4) Incompatibility problems, like NM-2FE2W that fail when 2 wics are installed

Typically the sticker on the back with 'H's and 'V's is the unit serial
number.

It's quite normal for the serial number as reported by 'sho ver' to be
different from the serial number on the outside of the chassis.
