With todays used pricing of GSR parts, where 12008:s can be had at $6-8k,
1GE ports at $2k and 4port OC3 at $2k, 16port OC3 at $3-5k, 12port DS3 at
$2k and so on, why bother with any other platform if your needs are to
handle more than a hundred megabits of traffic?

Yes, engine 0 and engine 1 cards arent great for features (access lists, 
netflow etc), but a 1GE card can do 900 megabit/s full duplex with access 
lists doing i-mix traffic (done that myself).
