Yes. All VLAN information is kept in a "vlan.dat" file in NVRAM. You
just copy this file elsewhere and you have the copy of the VLAN database.
It's not plain-text file.
This is true, at least, for Catalyst 2900XL, 3500XL, 3550 and 3750
series.
Newer Catalyst IOS'es display the warning when using old-style VLAN
configuration (vlan database) and advise you to use config mode VLAN
configuration. I *think* that Catalyst 2950 series store VLAN information as
a part of normal configuration -- which makes a lot more sense, IMHO.
