Understood.  I'm guessing that's why the 3550 is about 2½ times as much in cost.

Typical service provider example: Delivering a leased line replacement, where you receive a VLAN trunk from a customer at points A and B and want to connect this across your metro network using only one VLAN (ie. you don't need to/want to know all the customer's VLANs).
