Well, I think you can use mac address authentication in 802.1x and I find it
pretty likely that you can control on which vlan each user (mac address) is
placed, using 802.1x.
At least, I think 802.1x is Cisco's proposed solution in security at the user
level...?

I find VMPS simpler to implement, at least in our environment.
