Well.  I can hardly consider "rejecting EHLO" as "work fine", after the 
relevant RFCs have been STD0010 since 9 years (RFC 1869, released in 
November 1869).
There are lots of nice things in ESMTP (SMTP AUTH, TLS, pipelining, 
well-defined 8-Bit-transport, rejecting mails on size *before* transferring
all of it, ...) - not all of it will be useful for everybody, of course,
but just refusing all of it...?
But that's just a personal feeling, of course.
