Switch marketers preached to the masses, "Switches are fast, routers are
slow." The masses believed. Router marketers saw sales declining. Router
marketers began calling routers, especially routers with many ethernet
interfaces, "Layer-3 switches".
The masses now think that "Layer 3 switches" perform better than "Routers
with lots of ethernet interfaces".
The marketers are happy, the masses are happy.
