Here are 3 documents that I use as quick guides to allocation
of subnets out of our own /19, and that may help you to
understand the idea of VLSM better:

If you take my advice before you start carving you will invest
the time into running a package such as:
http://www.freeipdb.org
While this may seem like more work initially than just using a
spreadsheet, in the long run it will save you a great deal of time.
