CDP is great and is helping me every day. I wish there would be a standard
supported by other vendors (e.g. you could see that a Foundry switch is
connected to your Cisco device).

I believe CDP is especially useful in "uncontrolled" network environment,
where equipment is moved around without the related documentation being
updated - yes, I can tell you that there are companies where this happens...

Many people have warned me of all kind of terrible problems with CDP, but I
never experienced any personally.
