My experience

GSR8, GRP-B (512MB) IOS gsr-p-mz.120-30.S3.bin

3 Full BGP views,
10 OSPF neighbors
3 BGP internal peers

164k routes

gsr8-1#show ip cef summary
IP Distributed CEF with switching (Table Version 451143), flags=0x0
   164852 routes, 0 reresolve, 0 unresolved (0 old, 0 new), peak 33
670837 instant recursive resolutions, 33 used background process
1 load sharing elements, 1 references
   24 in-place/0 aborted modifications
28329632 bytes allocated to the FIB table data structures
universal per-destination load sharing algorithm, id 552E8D13
   3(0) CEF resets
Resolution Timer: Exponential (currently 1s, peak 2s)
   Tree summary:
    16-4-4-4-4 stride pattern

   0 crashes since restart

So, a 256MB LC has 132MB free RAM. That would be a very tight fit in
128MB and a spike in BGP announcements would max out the LC and
shutdown CEF
