Wouldn't you need faster than C photons to get that much better?

My highly unscientific research show from northern Europe I have 100ms to 
the US east coast, 170ms to Los Angeles, and 300ms to Tokyo, which is 
pretty much spot on in parity with what you're currently seeing if you 
discount my initial 100ms latency.

Looking at the globe it also looks like the distance from eastern US to 
Tokyo is approx twice the distance as from eastern US to Europe.
