I have many C2950G-48-EI's and the other day I could not gain telnet access
to one of them and a few machines behind it where having issues getting to
the world. When plugging a console into it I received the following
message...

%% Low on memory; try again later
Local Memory Statistics
Free = 40         Total = 3847808    Used = 3847768

The only way for me to fix the problem and get into the switch was to reboot
it. Traffic into the switch was only 5-6mbit also. Today I started to add
my 2950's into nagios so that I can monitor cpu and memory when I noticed
that a few of the other 2950's showed 0 memory free..

Example from one of them...

               Head Total(b) Used(b) Free(b) Lowest(b)
Largest(b)
Processor 80C8F980 3847808 3847808 0 0
0
      I/O A0A46540 2397216 1734352 662864 202368
560432

Now i noticed that Processor shows 0 Free but I/O shows 662864 bytes free.

A sh proc mem on the same switch showed me the following...

Total: 6245024, Used: 5581072, Free: 663952

My question here is should proc mem free be 0? why is there all these
different memory readings and which one should I pay attention to? Also
what's the best way to find whats eating the memory, sh mem displayed way to
much stuff. sh proc mem?

The OID's i'm using to monitor memory are 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.48.1.1.1.5.1 for
used and 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.48.1.1.1.6.1 for free. I was told these are for
5min averages, which doesnt make much sense why you'd have a 5 min average
on memory but if this is true, is their a real-time oid?

Thanks in advance.
